WOW What a win on Saturday night for the Hawkeyes enough can't be said about the way this defense completely manhandled Penn State except for one play. I was also very impressed with Adam Robinson and Brandon Wegher both played outstanding last night. The Play that Clayborn made is one of the best plays I've ever seen a DLineman make to block a punt when your in a punt return safe and take the ball all the way back for a touchdown completely changed the momentum of the game.
This might be the biggest road win of the Kirk Ferents era now we are 4-0 and come home to face Arkansas State in a sandwich game. We take care of buisness vs Arkansas State it sets up the big night game with Michigan where both teams could come in undefeated but we need to take care of Arkansas State first. Iowa once again didn't have Bulaga or Moeaki and they still controlled the line of scrimmage on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side of the ball especially. I don't think there is a better defense in the country then the Hawkeyes WE moved up to 13th in the ap and were 17th in Coaches pull.

What Iowa must do on Offense to Beat Penn State
The most important thing the Hawkeyes need to do this week to win this game is they can not turn the ball over they must take care of the ball. The Penn State defense will be fired up and feed off of the crowd if we turn the ball over things could get ugly. Running the football will be very important not even running it for a 100 yards or any of that but we need to be able to gain consistent yardage on 1st downs on the ground so Penn State can all out blitz us in 3rd and longs. The crowd noise will be a huge factor but I think the fact that Iowa has a lot of veteran wide recievers we will be able to handle the noise. So basically we need to put ourselves in a manageble situation on 3rd downs like 3rd and 5 so we have the option to run or pass.
The last big thing Iowa must do to have a chance to win this game is they must make plays when one of our recievers gets open Stanzi needs to hit him or the wideout needs to make the big catch.
The biggest factor in this game may not be on offense or defense but special teams Donahue is an outstanding weapon for the Hawks and should be able to pin Penn State deep if the offense stalls. Daniel Murray has also been pretty solid only missing one field goal so far this year.
This Penn State defense is probably the best defense we will face all year and the bonus for Penn State is they might have both there stud linebackers back this weekend in this

This will be a difficult test for the offense but I think they are up to it they have faced hostile crowds and this is a pretty veteran team so I don't think the crowd will effect us as if we were a younger team. WE MUST NOT TURN THE BALL OVER I reiterate this because we can't give them short fields.
We are getting closer to the big game this weekend and I am psyched.

The Big game is almost here this weekend at 7 o clock central time the Iowa Hawkeyes will head to Happy Vally to start Big Ten Season @ Penn State the number 4 ranked team in the country. College Gameday will be there and this will be a nationally televised game. Penn State is out for Revenge as the Hawks upset them last year with a last second field goal by Daniel Murray.
This years Penn State team is not the same team they haven't been tested at all this year and Evan Royster their star Tailback only ran for 100 yards 1 time in the 3 games they have played vs Akron, Syracuse and Temple. Darryl Clark is probably the best QB in the Big ten but they had to replace all of their wideouts and 3 offensive lineman so they haven't been tested on how good their offense will be.
The Defense for Penn State is one of the best in the nation so the Hawks offense will have to avoid mistakes and play very well. The big thing that the Nittany Lions defense could be missing is Sean Lee and Navarro Bowman are doubtful for the game this weekend. The defensive secondary for Penn State is also filled with young players I feel that we are the veteran team in this game.
This week Iowa looked awesome on defense this was the best we have played all year completely shutting down Arizona and the defensive line took over the game in the 2nd half. Adrian Clayborn was an absolute beast and we will need him to play this way vs Penn State. This Secondary was outstanding on Saturday and is much improved with Prater opposite of Speivey and that doesn't even include Greenwood and Sash who have been making a lot of plays this year.
Our Defense vs there Offense
The 2 key we need to shut down the run and make them one dimensional if Clayborn and Ballard can get in the backfield and disrupt the Penn State offense I really like our chances the other big match up will be. There recievers are relativly new so I don't know too much about them but they are young recievers vs our Secondary give us the advantage.
The one thing they do have on offense is an experienced QB but I think if we can get pressure on Clark we can force him into a lot of mistakes. We must get pressure on Clark or he could pick us apart on defense. The 1st Key is stop the run and make them one dimensional and the 2nd key is we have to get pressure on Clark.
Stay tuned for my keys for the offense to win this game.

Well the Hawks sit at 2-0 after a hard fought win over a good UNI team then a blowout over ISU. I think the Hawks have found there 1, 2 punch for now with Wegher and Robinson, Brinson also will get a shot to be in that mix too. I am very excited about the Arizona game this coming week we struggled with tackling a little and this will be the 1st time this year that we face a more traditional style offense instead of a spread offense. Arizona is a good football team and this will be a very hard fought game some stats for Arizona so far are.
Arizona's 2 wins came against Central Michigan 19 to 6 and Northern Arizona 34 to 17
They ran for 246 yards against Central Michigan with Grigsby there star tailback rushing for 118 yards on his own. They have a sophomore QB with very limited playing time this will be one of his first big road trips he has thrown an interception in both games so Iowa needs to shutdown the run and try and make Scott beat them because Arizona wants to run the ball.
This is a big game and will be a test as this is our last tuneup before the hawks head to happy Valley to open up the season. I think both teams will come up with the same type of gameplan on defense which is to stop the run and make one another one dimensional
